The Egg Poem

Polião Island, located within the enchanting Bijagós archipelago of Guinea Bissau Repúblique in West Africa, serves as a sanctuary dedicated to the preservation of turtles. During the months of October, November, and December, these magnificent creatures grace the island's shores, embarking on a remarkable journey to dig nests and lay their precious eggs. As night falls and the sun begins to rise, a mesmerizing spectacle unfolds. A magical moment emerges, where turtles arrive on the shore while simultaneously tiny hatchlings emerge from their eggs, perpetuating an endless cycle of life.

It is within this captivating scene that my curiosity takes hold. I am drawn to capturing the remnants and traces left behind, seeking to initiate a profound dialogue between the tangible reality of these creatures and the imaginative realm we associate with them. In a world threatened by the perils of global warming, it becomes increasingly crucial to recognize the vulnerability of these majestic beings. By bridging the gap between the real and the imagined, I aim to raise awareness and spark meaningful conversations about the urgent need for their protection.
